Chandigarh, April 27:
In a significant boost to the ongoing rabi procurement season, Punjab has surpassed the 100 lakh metric tonne (LMT) milestone in both wheat arrival and procurement, highlighting the state’s streamlined mandi operations and efficient grain management system.

According to official data, total wheat arrivals have reached 103.49 LMT, while procurement has crossed 100.15 LMT, reflecting a strong pace of government buying across mandis.

The achievement comes under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, with the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department ensuring smooth operations throughout the state. Under the guidance of Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, authorities implemented comprehensive arrangements, including adequate availability of bardana (gunny bags), clean drinking water, and proper sanitation facilities at procurement centres.

Officials said these measures have accelerated wheat arrivals, procurement, lifting, and timely payments, safeguarding the interests of farmers, commission agents (arhtiyas), and labourers alike.

In a major relief to farmers, the state government has credited ₹21,422.09 crore directly into farmers’ bank accounts within 48 hours of procurement, reinforcing its commitment to prompt payments and financial security.

The development underscores Punjab’s continued leadership in food grain procurement and its critical role in ensuring national food security.
