SANGRUR, May 11, 2026 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday visited Gurdwara Jyotisar Sahib in Sangrur to offer Ardas and express gratitude for the enactment of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act 2026, a landmark law prescribing harsher punishment for the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Joining the Sangat during the bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, Mann said the legislation has brought deep satisfaction to the Sikh community and will ensure no one ever dares to commit beadbi again.
Calling the law a historic achievement of the AAP government, Mann said people across Punjab are organising thanksgiving paths in response to its passage and that he is receiving numerous daily invitations to attend such religious gatherings. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to preserving the sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and said strict action will be taken against anyone involved in sacrilegious acts.
Attacking the BJP-led Central Government, Mann alleged that major decisions in the country are being dictated by the White House, citing the India-Pakistan conflict as an instance where outcomes were announced by US authorities. He warned that the proposed India-US trade deal could seriously damage Indian agriculture and harm farmers, and criticised FDI permissions in the defence sector as against national interest.
On the recent ED raids in Punjab, Mann alleged the Enforcement Directorate is being openly misused by the Union Government to intimidate and arm-twist political opponents. He asserted that the people of Punjab have never bowed before pressure tactics and will give a befitting reply to every attempt to suppress democratic voices.
